Heartfelt Hamburger Potato Casserole

A nostalgic and comforting Hamburger Potato Casserole filled with layers of tender potatoes, rich ground beef, and gooey cheese, perfect for creating memories around the dinner table.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned, about 7-10 minutes, and drain excess grease.
  3. Sauté the finely chopped onion with the beef for 3-4 minutes until soft.
  4. Prep the potatoes by slicing them thinly and seasoning with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Assemble in a greased baking dish starting with half the potatoes, followed by the beef mixture, then milk and melted butter, and layer the remaining potatoes on top.
  6. Top with shredded cheese and bake for approximately 45 minutes or until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.
  7. Let the casserole sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try adding bell peppers or using sweet potatoes. Substitute ground beef with lentils for a vegetarian version.
